Meet the owners

If you have a glance through the 200+ comments left on UpFront Reviews, you get a feel for how much heart and soul Rachel and Gerry put into running Burlton Cottages and Spa. They love Shropshire with a passion and work hard to make sure every single guest has a truly memorable stay. The friendly on-site owners manage everything themselves. From the very first enquiry through to making sure you have everything you need to enjoy your holiday they are there if you need them. But they step back to give you space as well. Rachel and Gerry were delighted to be recognised in the British Farming Awards 2018 for their diversification at the farm. They are extremely proud of the cottages, swimming pool and spa, alongside their green energy and environmental achievements. Rachel's background is in marketing, she worked for a chemical company for ten years in this field. Gerry manages the two farms they have in Shropshire in addition to managing the forward-thinking projects here at Burlton Cottages and Spa. Both actively fundraise to support worthy charities when they can. Summer 2019 was a busy time. In June, Gerry and Rachel hosted a BBQ for 200 people in one of the agricultural sheds collecting £600 in aid of the Air Ambulance. Then in July, after a 15-year break from running, Rachel and her sister completed a Triathalon and raised £1,850 for Cancer Research. Burlton Cottage’s onsite spa, gym and swimming pool came in useful for training! In their spare time Gerry continues to improve his golf swing and Rachel has continued running. They both enjoy watching their sons playing rugby, football and cricket.

You don’t have to take our word for how wonderful Burlton Cottages are, read some of the kind comments left behind by our lovely guests.

The history of Charity Farm

The history of both Charity Farm and Burlton is fascinating, and we're lucky that Marjorie Jones, who was brought up at Charity Farm in the 20th Century, wrote a book, 'Burlton', where she gave an account of her life in and around the village. I hope she wouldn't mind me sharing some of the tales from her book here.
