Rachel’s Blog

Hello. Welcome to my blog. This is where you will find all the latest developments from our lovely cottages. And probably a few other things too.

Introducing Wida and Wendy from Siam Harmony

We are delighted to have Wida and Wendy working from our treatment room in the Spa. They specialise in Thai therapeutic massages and beauty treatments. I can’t recommend them highly enough, especially as they have both got over 12 years experience as therapists. More information on their treatments is available under the Spa section on this website. Gift vouchers […]

The Blogger Returns

Sorry for not having blogged for a while (sounds like an illness – thankfully not!). Harvest is all safely gathered in here, the swimming pool is running beautifully and the cottages have had their busiest summer so far. We only have the gym to finish and everything will be up and running in the new spa. From cowshed to […]

The lambs have arrived!

The lambs have arrived at Charity Farm, so any help from guests over Easter is much appreciated!· They will be fed four times a day until they are a week-old, then we can cut it down to bigger feeds, three times a day.· They have come from a hill farm in Wales; the ewes had […]

Wedding guests at Burlton Cottages

The Easter weekend was a tremendous celebration for the Warren family who stayed in the cottages so that they could be close to their wedding venue, Pimhill Barn, just a five-minute drive away.· They arrived three days before the wedding so that the brides parents, sisters and family friends could be close to the venue […]

Flourishing time on the farm

The lambs are now two months old; reluctantly we have stopped bottle-feeding them as they now munch their way through grass and lamb nuts.  They really have been a pleasure this spring and we thank all our guests (young and old!) who have helped with their feeding.  They have got the summer basking in the […]

4-Star Gold Again!

What a delight to achieve our 4-Star Gold awards for each cottage for the second year. Although I get nervous about the assessment, it really is a pleasure to show the Visit England assessor around the properties as thankfully they do give some great tips and advice.  We scored 100% for cleanliness again thanks to my amazing […]

Look what we found whilst cleaning out the lamb pen – Hoglets! There are five altogether, we have left them in the straw bedding as they look well cared for already. I have left water and cat food out in the hope to help feed the adult Hedgehog.  Such a lovely find on the farm!

The sun is shining and the gardens are flourishing.  Perfect timing to have some professional photographs taken of outside the cottages.

Breakfast Hampers

To ease your getaway experience, arrive to a Shropshire Breakfast hamper for two people: Clun Valley Sausages and Bacon, Burlton Free-Range Eggs, Pimhill Organic Muesli (produced 4 miles away), British butter and milk (naturally), Petton Jam (made 2 miles away) and Chatwins Bread (from over the border in Cheshire, but worth it!). The majority I purchase […]

Meet the Millennials

So who are the millennials? The 15-million UK residents who, give or take a year or two, have only ever known adult life in the 21st century. Sadly, I’m not included. However, I have been interviewed by Visit England for an article about how I target this group with my marketing here at Burlton Cottages. […]

Autumn Challenge

Autumn is here; the warm, late sun has inspired me and a few girlfriends to a 10-week challenge.  We are aiming to walk somewhere different in Shropshire each week before Christmas, aiming for at least 5-10 miles each day.  This not only enables us all to enjoy Shropshire and discover new places, but I will be sharing photos […]

Dog Friendly

Dogs have always been welcome in The Stable and in The Courtyard here at Burlton Cottages.  There are some lovely walks straight from your doorstep on the farm.  However, Shropshire has some wonderful scenery and dog friendly walks with pubs along the way.  I have now put these great walking books in each cottage, for my guests to […]

Season’s Greetings

Where has this year gone? This has been our first full year in business and what a great time we have had.  We are always striving to improve and appreciate all the kind comments, suggestions and reviews that we have received.  We really are enjoying our step into hospitality and tourism – Burlton Cottages has […]

The Harry Johnson Trust

Throughout 2015, Burlton Cottages has supported three different charities by donating holiday breaks.  Most personal to me is a local Charity, The Harry Johnson Trust, set up by Harry’s parents in memory of him.  I met Harry’s Mum through a mutual friend many years ago.  The trust offers gestures of support to children with cancer who receive care at Telford Hospital. It […]

Super-fast broadband is here!

We have had a great start to the New Year with the news that fibre broadband has arrived in Burlton, as part of a £17.4 million ‘Connecting Shropshire’ scheme to improve internet coverage in rural parts of the county.  We already have free unlimited Wi-Fi in all three cottages, so – hopefully, from the end of the month […]
